It is good to see movement towards a more environmental computer industry. Dell has announced the launch of a new program for the recycling of old Dell equipment and the best part is that is free. The new policy is going to be applied world wide. This new policy can be seen as an upgrade of the actual company policy of recovery under the condition of buying a new Dell product. Now you don’t have to buy a new Dell product to enjoy this service.

Just when we thought that China was the centre of the most important investment in technologies nowadays, New York is attracting technology investment through special incentives. AMD was attracted from an incentive of 1.2 billion on cash and some other additional incentives. Albany in New York is making plans to become the next Silicon Valley, hence the necessity to assure that AMD will become a key investor there. AMD and the state of NY investment will be around $3.2 billion in the area and in a 600 acre state of the art plant.

Sometimes the money is not a problem that is the case of the new HD-DVD recorder that Toshiba is launching in Japan. This new stage of the war between Toshiba with its HD-DVD and Sony with its Blu-ray technology is a breath for Toshiba since the launch of the popular game console PS3 that include a Blu-ray player.

World Cup’s Robots

One of the technology attractions of the 2006 World Cup is the use of robots for security purposes. The robots developed by the company Robowatch based in Berlin are in charge of the surveillance of underground parking lots and the field were the sponsors and VIPs are located. One of the robots OFRO is using technology used in Iraq for military purposes; this robot is in charge of the outdoor surveillance and has thermal cameras and sensors that can detect radiation, viruses and chemical agents. The robots work using GPS and can be directed specifically to a suspicious area.

Europe's EXOMARS Mission

In 2011 the Europe's Exomars Mission is going to be launched from Kourou (French Guaiana), The mission will land in Mars on 2013. What's the Buzz? well the technology behind this project will be decisive for market applications in the next decade so there is a competition amongst the European countries to win contracts for the Exomars Mission.

An example of the technology used in the Exomars Mission is the Life Maker Chip (LMC) that is going to be used to test the Mars's soil looking for molecules related with the cration of life. The chip will look for aminoacides and specifically for adenosine triphosphate, wich are critical for energy transfer in cells.

Digital cameras on fire

As technology advances, people have to face new threats. Threats like the HP's R707 digital camera, that could get on fire if you don’t take care of using rechargeable batteries. HP has issued a recall for at least 679,000 digital cameras worldwide. The hazard of fire exists due to the overheating of common batteries that receive charge when the device is connected to an A/C adapter. The batteries overheat causing the camera to get on fire.
