With its new hybrid optical component for laser players Ricoh is looking forward to bring a solution for everybody in the field of High fidelity. The component developed by Ricoh will bring together the HD-DVD and Blu-ray formats. The Ricoh component is able to adjust the incident ray allowing the light to focus according to each format. The incident ray has to be adjusted because of the differences of depth in which the data layer can be found for each format. In the case of the HD-DVD format the depth is 0.6 mm, in contrast the depth for the Blu-ray format is 0.1mm.
The Ricoh’s hybrid optical diffraction component will be able to play the common DVD and CD formats. This device will be shown by Ricoh at the International Optoelectronics Exhibition '06 in Japan next this week.
Now the matter is to wait for the OEM’s to embrace the technology and launch the hybrid players.
