Open Office has become more reliable. Now OpenOffice.org 2.0.3 is available for download here, this new version has a 23% improvement in calc tools. Also the compatibility with the Microsoft Office suite was improved as well.

Just when we thought that China was the centre of the most important investment in technologies nowadays, New York is attracting technology investment through special incentives. AMD was attracted from an incentive of 1.2 billion on cash and some other additional incentives. Albany in New York is making plans to become the next Silicon Valley, hence the necessity to assure that AMD will become a key investor there. AMD and the state of NY investment will be around $3.2 billion in the area and in a 600 acre state of the art plant.

Non volatile memory technology

There is a new memory technology that is going to compete whith the volatile memory that is used in the market nowadays. A volatile memory loses its stored information when the power is shut off. Some examples of volatile memory are SRAM, DRAM and MOSFET.

The new technology is from the non-volatile memory kind and its called Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (MRAM). Soon the computer industry will enjoy a dense, fast and non-volatile memory.

New Supercomputer

Imagine a 70 teraflops computer…….well a supercomputing centre is being built by IBM and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) in New York. This supercomputer centre is university based and will be shared between RPI's Troy campus and the Rensselaer Technology Park in North Greenbush and will utilize the Internet 2 backbone for communication between the two nodes.

The centre will be amongst the top ten supercomputing centres in the world and will be based on the blue gene technology of IBM. The supercomputing centre is going to be used for nanotechnology and biotechnology research.

Google's new dilemma is called Internet Explorer 7. The new Microsoft's web browser released in april has presented a challenge to Google because its default is set to Microsoft’s MSN. The war between the two giants have forced Microsoft to add 2 billion dollars to its next year budget. The deal for Microsoft is to gain market share in the market of Internet services and software, where Google is the leader.

Seagate has put itself at the vanguard of the information security technology for the massive notebook market, launching its Momentus Full Disk Encryption Hard Drive. This new technology brings a new level of security for those that have sensitive information in their notebooks, the technology will be available now within a limited launch, and despite that it doesn’t allow the user to turn off the encryption function the company doesn’t believe that the users of notebooks object to have new levels of security. Companies and the government are the principal targets for this new product since the high degree of sensitive information that they handle.
