Dell’s Battery Recall
August 15th 2006 13:29
Dell has recalled 4.1 million batteries from its notebook line. The recall affects the models Latitude, Inspiron, Precision and XPS.
The batteries manufactured by Sony, present a risk of explosion under certain conditions. The batteries have impurities in the anode and cathode of the battery. These impurities can generate a rupture of an insulator creating the risk of a short circuit.
The problem batteries were shipped to customers between April 1, 2004 and July 18, 2006. A key characteristics is that they are marked as “Made in Japan”, “Made in China” or “Battery cell made in Japan, Assembled in China”. If your battery does have one of these marks you must check the battery model. Then if your battery is one of the faulty ones, you will need to proceed with the recalling process here.
Important: in case you happen to have one of these batteries in your computer, remove the battery and use AC power until the new battery arrives.
