Free music downloads from Universal Music

About time we are going to have quality music and video for free, yeah I’m still missing Napster…..but this business model is totally legal since Spiralfrog has signed a deal with Universal Music to allow users to download the major part of Universal’s catalogue.


The revenues for Spiralfrog and Universal will come from the advertisement. Users will be able to enjoy quality content because they will download legal digital files with no viruses or spyware. The advertisement approach will be based on a non-intrusive" and "contextually relevant approach. The important thing here is that the content will be playable offline. Digital rights management will be found embedded in the content, the format will be WMA making possible to play the files on portable devices labelled with the "PlaysForSure" logo. Just one catch, the files can’t be burned on CD.

The service will be initially available in the US and Canada, but it wouldn’t be longer for a worldwide approach. The target market will be people from 13 to 34 years, technology savvy and more sensitive to a true musical experience.
The site will be launched late this year.
