GM’s Hybrid Technology

In the past I wrote about approaches to a more friendly technology, now is the turn of GM, one of the US car making industry. Historically US based car markers have relied in the truck market, very profitable in the US, but also the most fuel consuming. Now things begin to change since GM has been working for a while in a whole range of environmental vehicles that are attractive as the actual range.
From GM’s environmental friendly cars, the Hybrid Yukon stands out of the crowd. The Hybrid Yukon uses a system based on an electrically variable transmission with two hybrid modes of operation that optimize power and torque for various driving conditions. For low speeds and light loads the first mode is activated, the second mode is for highway speeds.
According to GM “When combined with Active Fuel Management, the two-mode full hybrid will enable the Vortec V-8-powered SUVs to deliver a composite fuel efficiency improvement of 25percent.”
The hybrid system features Two 60 kW motors and a 300-volt battery pack.
