Internet Explorer 7 a headache for Google
May 2nd 2006 13:11
Google's new dilemma is called Internet Explorer 7. The new Microsoft's web browser released in april has presented a challenge to Google because its default is set to Microsoft’s MSN. The war between the two giants have forced Microsoft to add 2 billion dollars to its next year budget. The deal for Microsoft is to gain market share in the market of Internet services and software, where Google is the leader.
The core business of Google, the ad-supported software, distributed as a Web service, is a threat to Microsoft's model of selling licensed desktop software, at least in the consumer market.
One of the most sounded events in this war happened last year when Microsoft sued Google to stop a star computer scientist and manager at Microsoft, Kai-Fu Lee, from working on search technology at Google.
The war is for a $10 billion advertising market. At the end the winners should be the users that will enjoy a wide range of services at low cost. The threat is the internet services and software falling in a monopoly.
