NAND flash memory goes 50 nm
July 27th 2006 12:50
Nowadays there is a high demand for memory capacity, hence the announcement of Micron and Intel of a new 50 nanometers NAND flash memory is a blessing. The idea is to deliver a 4GB NAND flash memory to the market next year. The most sounded application of this technology will be on mobile technology, the acquisition of Lexar is a movement to strength Micron’s position in the NAND market. The market for NAND flash memory is projected to be $30 billion by 2010.
The company in charge to produce the NAND memory is IM Flash Technologies LLC, a joint venture formed by Micron and Intel.
The advances in the NAND technology has been fast paced since 2004 when Micron initiated the production of NAND memory based in a 90 nanometer technology.
The production of NAND will be based on three Micron’s US facilities located in Boise, Manassas and Lehi.
