Nanotechnology is here

Many of us have heard about nanotechnology…well this is it..a company called NANTERO has developed a memory chip based in carbon nanotubes (A carbon nanotube matrix laid across an etched trench.) as the active memory elements.
According to Nantero “This memory chip will be faster and denser than DRAM, have substantially lower power consumption than DRAM or flash, be as portable as flash memory, and be highly resistant to environmental forces (heat, cold, magnetism). And as a nonvolatile chip, it will provide permanent data storage even without power. Possible uses include the enabling of instant-on computers, which boot and reboot instantly, as well as high-density portable memory - MP3 players, PDAs, high-speed network servers and much more, including the ability to conduct electricity as well as copper while being stronger than steel and as hard as diamond. The wall of a single-walled carbon nanotube is only one carbon atom thick and the tube diameter is approximately 100,000 times smaller than a human hair.”
At the phase of the advances in nanotechnology, soon we are going to be witnesses of a big war for the control of market share amongst the different technologies that are converging in the field of microprocessors. Samsung with its WSP technology (silicon based) a 3D package that consists of a 16-gigabit memory solution, which stacks eight 2-Gbit NAND chips in the same unit, is one of these players. Another player is the chip developed by Kilocore and IBM that consist in and arrange of thousands of parallel processors.
