The state of the art touch screen technology from Synaptics has found a good partnership with Pilotfish's user interface and industrial design expertise. Both companies have joined efforts to develop the Onix concept. Onix is anew approach to the mobile phone industry moving from a device functionality design to a activity based designed. The Onix mobile will integrate phone, GPS, music, teleconference and calendar events.
The touch screen is based on Synaptics’ ClearPad technology, a thin, high resolution capacitive touch screen. The new technology enables mobile phone makers to increase LCD size since no physical buttons are required.
The touch screen can be used for innovative designs since can be curved.
According to Synaptics “the ClearPad accurately recognizes not only points and taps, but also shapes, complex gestures, and proximity to the user’s finger or cheek”. Imagine just answering the phone by holding it against your cheek.
A key feature will be the capability to work simultaneously across applications, creating a true interactive environment. This technology will be fully available for mobile manufactures at the end of this year.
