Non volatile memory technology

May 18th 2006 12:29
There is a new memory technology that is going to compete whith the volatile memory that is used in the market nowadays. A volatile memory loses its stored information when the power is shut off. Some examples of volatile memory are SRAM, DRAM and MOSFET.

The new technology is from the non-volatile memory kind and its called Magnetoresistive Random Access Memory (MRAM). Soon the computer industry will enjoy a dense, fast and non-volatile memory.

The technology is based in the use of materials with magnetic properties to store and process information. The storage medium is a ferromagnetic bit fitted on a Hall sensor which senses magnetic field direction and stores information accordingly. Since the technology is from the denser type it delivers higher storage capacity than the actual chips.

The first market of the MRAM technology will be in radar systems, satellites and sensors. Micromen technologies is the company that owns the technology and is going to be a key player in the new RFID industry.
