PlayStation3 Vs PC
June 2nd 2006 10:47
In another episode that involves Sony Computer Entertainment's Worldwide Studios president Phil Harrison, the company is settling their product position as a replacement of the home PC in functions, like gaming (obviously), watching movies, hearing music and even browsing the web.
In a previous post I wrote about converging technologies involving gaming consoles, well this is it, a firm war declaration between products that once were considered like focused in different markets but that now are facing direct competency for the family budget.
So what is going to happen with the family PC? Well from my point of view as the multiuse game consoles are evolving at giant leaps, there is an equal advance in portable computers. Since this trend is getting stronger, families will end with a couple of portable computers and a robust game console capable of managing several home entertainment functions.
There is still a fight in progress amongst XBOX and PS3 about the disc format since PS3 incorporated the Blue ray standard but XBOX was unable to us HD-DVD standard in the console. There must be some movement about this core issue in the following weeks.
