Sony reader launch delayed
June 6th 2006 11:08
The Sony reader will handle e-books, PDF, JPG and MP3 files. The screen is about 6” SVGA 800x600 grey scale display with E Ink® Display technology, it also has Internal memory with a slot for removable memory (Memory Stick® storage media and SD Memory Cards).
The reader will have a storage capacity of approximately 7,500 page turns per battery charge. The books can be downloaded from Sony’s Connect® Book store.
One of the key features is the paper like display, this means clarity and resolution. This effect is achieved by the use of Sony’s E-ink technology that in contrast to the LCD or CRT technology consists of microcapsules which can be white or black depending on a negative or positive charge determined by the file content. The screen can be read in direct sunlight and from a 180 degree angle, also it doesn’t require any power to maintain the image.
