World Cup’s Robots

June 22nd 2006 14:12

One of the technology attractions of the 2006 World Cup is the use of robots for security purposes. The robots developed by the company Robowatch based in Berlin are in charge of the surveillance of underground parking lots and the field were the sponsors and VIPs are located. One of the robots OFRO is using technology used in Iraq for military purposes; this robot is in charge of the outdoor surveillance and has thermal cameras and sensors that can detect radiation, viruses and chemical agents. The robots work using GPS and can be directed specifically to a suspicious area.

The robots used in the parking lots cost US$15000 and the one that is used outdoors costs approximately US$70000.
